What does that mean “Just Do You”? Who are YOU? Obviously, this is something I truly believe in… it’s in my freaking signature! HA! Recently I have been listening to “The Sell” by Fredrik Eklund. (In case you didn’t already know, I am a BRAVOholic. I watch anything and everything on BRAVO, it’s my vice.) If you don’t already watch his show Million Dollar Listing: NY, you’re missing out. My husband even enjoys it (and tipped me off on his book)! Anyways, back to the book… Fredrik has a contagious personality. I don’t know the guy, but I want to know him… hell, I want to be his friend. He preaches “Just Do You”, lives by it, and attributes it all to his success.
Yesterday I was at part in the book that he went in depth about owning who YOU are and playing up your strengths. Why do we spend our lives trying to be like someone else when it isn’t in the very core of our being? Frederik says, “hiding yourself is FEAR you aren’t who you are supposed to be. So who are you? I’m sure you could tell me who you want to be but what you have to offer is ENOUGH! I think we all fail at speaking and living our own truth. We try to be more reserved, less excited. You know what I hate? When something big happens and I have to play it down.
One afternoon a few months back I received an e-mail that I had been accepted into Reward Style (LIKEtoKNOW.it). I literally jumped up gave a dance, started clapping, and screaming. It was a WIN! That’s what I do when I get excited, I love to dance, clap and give a “whoo hoooooo”… maybe even a few high fives 😉 At the time I had a sweet girl interning for me. I remember thinking about it that evening after I shared the big news with Andrew, I wonder if I made her feel uncomfortable? Did I look weird? I honestly didn’t care, that was my truth. And maybe it would let her see that I want to have fun in life and business. Everything doesn’t have to be so serious…
I try to hide my depth but am a deep, emotional person. I like to send people thoughtful texts, messages, cards and words of wisdom. If you say you’re going to do it, then do it. Commitment and loyalty is big to me. I like my style to be noticed, it’s my thing. I am a person that thrives on praise, so I surround myself with people who encourage me. As much as I have tried, I can’t hide my feelings. If I have an issue with you, you will know about it. I LOVE to communicate. I don’t understand people who won’t speak up when they have a REAL issue. It’s funny to me that people will let it affect their lives without speaking up… that’s just me though. I am detailed. I like to lead. For the most part, I’m organized…having a child has changed some of that. I know that I am at my best when I relax and keep a calming energy. I live by faith. I am not much of a worrier. I think my daughter is the coolest human being I’ve ever met. Motherhood suites me well. I want to be successful and achieve BIG THINGS in my career. I like to talk strategy and business. I am too opinionated but working on my tone. I’ve tried to change this about myself but can’t. I believe in positivity.
Whether you want the next step in your career or would rather wear sneakers than heels, I encourage you to evaluate who YOU are. Play to your strengths and stop trying to be something you aren’t. We all have jewels that make each and every one of us unique, embrace those differences. If you can’t be yourself around your current surroundings, I suggest you change them. You may have to change friends… thank God I don’t though 🙂
Make this Monday Matter and JUST DO YOU
